Glen was born the son of a Dr. of Veterinary Medicine (the late Dr. Lyle V. Kansanback, DVM) and he inherited his passion for animals from his father. Following a similar path to his father, Glen obtained a B.S. Degree in Zoology from NDSU, Fargo, ND.
Glen worked in natural resources management with the Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming in the fields of wildlife biology, and natural resource management for about 14 years before moving to SC about 20 years ago to work with the US Forest Service. He has now completed his 33 years federal career and Falcon Quest, LLC began in 2021.
While living in the State of Wyoming Glen became a licensed/permitted practicing falconer there, and brought this unique passion with him to South Carolina. He has been actively flying birds of prey now for nearly 30 years.
With his field experience working with natural resources, ecosystem management, and conservation practices Glen brings a lot to the table when he talks about birds of prey and how they interact in the wild. When one couples together a BS in Zoology, a 33 year career working outdoors as a Natural Resource Specialist in two regions of the USA , that alone would be enough. However, he has also travelled to many areas around the world experiencing animals and their habitats, and add to that nearly 30 years as a practicing licensed falconer - well! that is a whole lot of depth that he can bring to your venue!
"I never will get tired of seeing the look on a child's face when they see a falcon or an owl for the first time right up close". This is what it is all about, seeing that awe-struck wonder upon their faces! It just never gets old."
"Perhaps one of my programs will motivate a young person to pursue a career in the biological sciences." Glen Kansanback
Glen has recently developed and started Falcon Quest, LLC. While he was considering doing this project for the past dozen or so years, he come up with the idea of going directly to the people and bring this highly unique educational experience to venues that would allow him to share his passion.
" I sometimes get asked the question, why the name Falcon Quest? The quest in the name is the journey, adventure or pursuit of experiencing something new. For me it is helping others to learn more about birds of prey and their connection to the wild. So many people these days are very much disconnected from natural resources and the awesome animals that inhabit them." Glen
The list of bird species that Glen has had an opportunity to be with in the field is very extensive. He has been in the field with birds as large as Golden Eagles and as small as the little Kestrel falcon. Along with falconry, he has also ferreted (hunting with a ferret), often times he brings a ferret with him to talk about the similarities of these two ancient practices.
You can see why he can spend so much quality time talking about many interesting topics and facts. Just ask him a question and sit back and let him dig something interesting out of his extensive knowledge bank.
It truly is quite impressive to experience...
